I love desserts

danhimira 2021. 8. 21. 09:59

In Peru, there is a wide variety of desserts so if you love desserts as much as I do, you are in the correct place! There are some typical desserts such as ‘mazamorra morada’ , ‘arroz con leche’,  ‘suspiro a la limeña’, ‘mazamorra de calabaza’, ‘picarones’ and ‘turrón’. So yummy!

Mazamorras típicas

Mazamorra Morada

Is a dessert made from purple corn (vitamins and minerals such as iron and phosphorus) that has been cultivated in Peru since pre-Hispanic times. It’s very popular, especially during October because the procession of 'Señor de los milagros' takes place, and together with 'turrón', it is a typical dessert of that date. It's easy to do it and everyone loves it!

Mazamorra Morada

Arroz con Leche

It’s a typical dessert of the gastronomy of multiple countries made by slowly cooking rice pudding and sugar. It is served hot or cold. It is usually sprinkled with cinnamon, vanilla, or lemon peel to flavor it.

Suspiro a la limeña

This dessert is consumed mainly in the city of Lima but also in the other cities of Peru and certain neighboring countries. In recent years, due to the internationalization of Peruvian gastronomy, the consumption of dessert has been spreading to other countries in the world where Peruvians have emigrated and opened various restaurants.

Mazamorra de calabaza

It’s a sweet native to the Andean region of Peru and its history originates in the Pre Inca times. It has a high nutritional value because it contains fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals.

Picarones

The story goes that the ‘Picarón’ had its origin in pre-Hispanic times when the indigenous people prepared a similar recipe based on sweet potatoes and squash, inputs that were part of the diet of the Incas. Later, with the arrival of the Spanish, new ingredients were added, such as wheat flour and sugar, and the ‘Picarón’ acquired its classic hole in the center.

Turron Doña Pepa

The origin of this traditional dessert dates back to viceregal times, with the story of Doña Josefa Marmanillo, she was an Afro-Peruvian slave well known for being a great cook, one of her greatest recipes was nougat. Unfortunately, she suffered an illness where her arms were paralyzed so she decided to go to the procession of the ‘Señor de Los milagros’, to implore the ‘Cristo Morado’ for her healing, time later it is said that the miracle was granted. In gratitude, she returned the following year and offered him her popular 'turrón'. This custom was repeated every year until the dessert captivated not only Christ but all his devotees.

There are so many more desserts and my favorite is 'picarón', I really love it!♥
