Nazca Lines 본문
In 1994 it was declared Cultural Heritage by Unesco. They cover an area of almost 1,000 square kilometers and there are around 300 different figures, including animals and plants. They are made up of more than 10,000 lines, some of them 30 meters wide and more than 9 kilometers long. It is easier to see the figures from the air or from nearby mountains. They are located in the Pampas de Jumana in the Ica region, and were discovered in 1927 by the archaeologist Toribio Mejía Xespe; However, the most profound work began in 1946, when the German researcher María Reiche took over, a task that she carried out until the end of her life.
Reiche considered that the Nazca lines, whose age is estimated to be 550 years AD, were used by ancient Peruvian astronomers as a gigantic solar and lunar calendar. She is remembered for having measured almost 50 figures with a tape measure, her main work tool, along with her ladder, compass, broom, notebook, and her mathematical mind.
Due to the pandemic, the Nazca lines were unable to receive tourists for several months, until on November 10 the aircraft overflights were reactivated, which is the service most requested by tourists arriving in the Pampas de Jumana. People can also see part of the figures from the new lookout tower, a 20-meter-high metal infrastructure, which was inaugurated in February this year. So schedule your visit to this Ica destination for later. You will be fascinated!
There are so many other hieroglyphic figures and you can check them on Google or Bing or any other global search engine!
